Sunnyside | Renovation

Something Old, Something New. We came up with a creative strategy for modernizing and expanding a modest, 1,500-square-foot, hundred-year-old Craftsman house to accommodate a family of four. The renovation leaves the front and sides of the house virtually unchanged, while gutting the rear and downstairs, making the renovation invisible from the street. We also came up with a way to add 500 square feet within the existing footprint of the house. The resulting dwelling is a marriage of contrasts—traditional in front and modern in back, dark on the outside and light on the inside—yet seamlessly integrated within a compact envelope.
