99% Folly | Urban Proposal

Inspired by the Occupy protests of fall 2011, 99% Folly is a meditation on the issue of inequality of wealth—specifically, the imbalances of household resources among the world’s nations. The project translates statistics from a 2006 UN-sponsored report into three-dimensional inflatable forms, turning data into a spatial experience. Visitors walk through a forest of balloons in which some nations’ economic structures—such as the United States’, with its top-heavy distribution—are palpably precarious.
