Irene
Cheng and Brett Snyder founded Cheng+Snyder in 2006. The firm is a multi-disciplinary
design studio based in New York City. The firm engages in architectural
and graphic design, as well as writing.
Irene Cheng is a principal of Cheng+Snyder. Prior to starting her own
practice, she worked as a designer for Bernard Tschumi Architects. Cheng
writes frequently on issues related to architecture and culture. Her articles
have appeared in Frieze, Cabinet, 32BNY, Surface, and A magazine, and
she is coeditor of The State of Architecture at the Beginning of the 21st
Century (The Monacelli Press, 2004). She holds an M.Arch from Columbia
and a Bachelor degree in Social Studies from Harvard. She is currently
a doctoral candidate in Architecture History and Theory at Columbia.
Brett Snyder is a principal of Cheng+Snyder. Snyder has designed internationally
at a wide range of scales. His design experience spans disciplines from
working on large commercial architecture projects (at Steven Holl Architects),
to collaborating on watch designs (at Swatch Watch), to working on exhibition,
signage, print, and web matter (at the Cooper Union Center for Design
and Typography). Snyder is a founder, designer, and editor of the architecture
and design publication 32BNY. He holds an M.Arch from Columbia and a Bachelor
degree in Graphic Design from Carnegie Mellon University. Snyder currently
teaches communication design at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
